Erick comes from a very poor family and having achieved high marks at Saramek Primary, the headmistress put him forward as a candidate for our support. His father has been very ill for a number of years, so he (and the rest of his siblings) have been supported by their mother who works at a flower farm on the Finlay tea estate near Kericho.
At the start of 2012 Erick began attending Onjiko High School where Will and Shirley went to see him in July 2014 and again in 2016. He obtained good enough grades to gain a place at Maseno University where he is studying for a BA in English and English Literature.
Erick is extremely friendly and outgoing and has a better-than-native command of the English language! Probably partly manifesting from his strong interest in poetry. He’s also very entrepreneurial and when Will visited him in 2019, he spoke of his desire to set up an Artist Management company. The Trust recently provided him with a laptop (kindly donated by a UK supporter) to assist him in his studies and entrepreneurial endeavours.
Erick was generously sponsored through secondary school by Tim and Becky Hillier.
