Moses Omondi was the first of our sponsored students. Children normally start secondary school aged fourteen in Kenya but Moses began later due to family problems. He is an orphan and his guardian is Sarah Njambi who became headmistress of Saramek Primary after Will and Ollie left and where Moses was one of the top students in his year. Unfortunately, however, Sarah was driven out of the area by the troubles that followed the elections in December 2007. Since Moses was from the Luo tribe, he was not targeted and was able to remain and continue his secondary school education at Kericho High School.
He gained a Diploma in Electrical Engineering at Mombasa Technical University in 2015/16 where he was initially sponsored by his old Primary school headmistress and then by UK friends . Moses requested our help in sourcing a laptop which he needed for this course and thanks to the generosity of a UK friend, a second hand laptop was sent out to him. He did an internship with Mosound Events which gave him experience in lighting, screen configuration and sound. He got a job at the Intercontinental Hotel in Nairobi as an electrical technician and for the last few years has been working at Tetrapak in Nairobi. He has a wife and 2 young sons. He is hoping to get a job working on a liner based in the US as an Environmental Technician but the visa application etc is frustratingly proving very longwinded!
